Much like Brazil, Korea is largely known for having one of the highest rates of plastic surgery per capita. South Korea’s national health plan even covers the double eyelid surgery I mentioned before. In 2013, Miss Korea contestants were transformed into the women you see above. The pageant racked up a lot of criticism due to the eerily similar facial structures of each of these girls and led to a nation-wide conversation about Korea’s plastic surgery problem.
This room will probably have a set up similar to China’s, because of their overlap of the double eyelid procedure. I also would like to bring in an expert on cultural norms in regards to beauty practices and compare the Miss Korea pageant concerns with the beauty norms of the West.
